ComWell was recently awarded one of 26 national Rural Communities Opioid Response Program Behavioral Health Care Support grants funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration. This grant is $500,000 for each year through 2026. The primary goal of the grant is to address barriers in rural areas for individuals in gaining access to quality, integrated behavioral health care services.
ComWell and partners, Sparta Community Hospital, Memorial Hospital in Chester, Washington County Hospital, the Randolph County Sheriff’s office and the Randolph County Housing Authority will work together to improve coordination of care with one another as it relates to behavioral health care. Over the four years, we will work together to improve community risk factors that affect the behavioral health of rural residents.
“I am incredibly pleased this grant will provide funding to enhance the behavioral health coordination between ComWell and our key community partners. We plan to expand our access to mental health and substance use services, improve training across all partner staff and expect our community to benefit from increased behavioral health support across our organizations.” ComWell Executive Director, Shea Haury, stated.
ComWell is a 501c3 private, not for profit Community Mental Health Center that provides substance use and mental health counseling plus developmental disability services in Randolph and Washington Counties. ComWell has four outpatient locations located in Chester, Sparta, Red Bud and Okawville.
